Hook Generator for Posts and Email Subject Lines
Turn one topic into 20 opening lines built on proven hook patterns for LinkedIn, X, Instagram, YouTube and email.
Where will it be posted?
What is the post about?
Tone
Blank fields fall back to generic wording, so fill at least the topic and outcome. Hooks are built from proven patterns, not generated by an AI model: edit the best two or three into your own voice before posting.
Your hooks appear here
20 opening lines picked for your topic, grouped by pattern: curiosity gap, contrarian, numbers, mistake, story, question, proof and how-to, each with a note on why it works and a length check for linkedin posts.
How to use the Hook Generator
- 1
Describe the post in six fields
Topic and outcome matter most. Audience, mistake, a number and a timeframe make the hooks specific; leave a field blank and the tool uses generic wording. - 2
Pick format, topic kind and tone
LinkedIn, X, Instagram, YouTube title or email subject line; then what the post is about and how it should sound. Each choice changes which patterns are drawn and the length guide. - 3
Copy two or three, then rewrite
Each hook explains why the pattern works. Take the shape, add a detail only you know, and post.
Turn one idea into a month of content
Coursiv's Content and Social Media courses teach the system behind the hooks: what your audience asks, what you can prove, how to say it in your voice.

The eight hook patterns and when to use them
Curiosity gap hooks withhold the method and show the result; use them when you have a genuinely surprising answer. Contrarian hooks take a side against common advice; use them only when you can back the position in the post. Number hooks set expectations and get saved; they need a real list behind them. Mistake hooks name a pain the reader already feels. Story hooks trade on a turning point and work best in first person. Question hooks invite a self-check. Proof hooks promise evidence and suit case studies. How-to hooks are the workhorse for tutorials and email.
Why hook generators beat staring at a blank line
The hard part of a first line is not writing it, it is choosing the angle. Seeing twenty angles on the same idea makes the choice fast: two or three will obviously fit what you have to say and the rest are easy to discard. That is also why the tool shows the pattern behind each hook. After a few uses you stop needing the generator, which is the point.
Email subject lines: the same patterns, half the length
A subject line is a hook with a 50-character budget. Curiosity and number patterns survive the cut best; story and proof patterns usually need the full first line of the email instead. The generator drops the patterns that do not fit and flags any line over the guide.
