For most people, Google AI Pro is the right plan. It costs $19.99 a month in the US and gives 4x the Free usage limits, Gemini 3.1 Pro, Deep Research, Gemini in Gmail and Docs, and 5 TB of storage. Google AI Ultra costs $99.99 a month for 5x the Pro limits or $199.99 for 20x, and adds Deep Think, Project Genie and much larger video credits. Choose Ultra only if you keep hitting Pro’s weekly limit or need an Ultra-only feature for paid work.
This comparison is for people who already use Gemini and are deciding whether the jump from about $20 to $100 or $200 a month makes sense. Every plan fact below was checked on Google’s own pages on 13 October 2026. Prices are US prices before tax and differ by country, so verify current pricing on the official site before you pay.

What Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra include
Both plans sit in Google’s consumer lineup next to Free ($0) and Google AI Plus ($4.99 a month), according to the Gemini subscriptions page. They are sold to personal Google Accounts only, and Google says the plans are for ages 18 and over.
Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month
Pro is the middle plan and the one Google aims at everyday heavy users. The subscriptions page lists these core benefits:
- 4x higher usage limits in the Gemini app than Free, with access to Gemini 3.1 Pro, Deep Research and a 1 million token context window.
- 1,000 Google Flow credits a month for AI video and scene creation.
- Gemini Notebook (the tool Google renamed from NotebookLM on 16 July 2026) with 5x more Audio Overviews and notebooks than Free.
- Gemini in Gmail, Docs and more, plus Chrome auto browse.
- Higher limits for the Jules coding agent and entry limits in Google Antigravity.
- 5 TB of cloud storage, YouTube Premium Lite and the Google Home Premium Standard plan.
Google AI Ultra at $99.99 or $199.99 a month
Ultra includes everything in Pro and then raises the ceiling. As of October 2026, Google sells it in two sizes on the same page: $99.99 a month for 5x the Pro usage limits, or $199.99 a month for 20x. On top of the higher limits, Ultra lists:
- First access to advanced features such as the Deep Think reasoning mode, in select countries.
- 10,000 or 25,000 Google Flow credits a month, depending on the tier.
- Project Genie, an interactive world model that Google says is only available with Ultra.
- The highest limits in Gemini Notebook, Jules, Antigravity and Gemini in Google apps.
- Storage starting at 20 TB, the YouTube Premium individual plan and Google Home Premium Advanced.
The Google One plans page adds two more Ultra items: Gemini Agent (US only, English only) and AI calling to local businesses (US only).

Key differences that matter in daily use
The table makes Ultra look like a long list of extras. In practice, three differences decide the choice.
Usage limits are the main thing you pay for. Gemini app limits are compute based. Google’s plan footnotes say the limit depends on how complex your prompt is, which features you use and how long the chat runs. It resets every 5 hours until you reach a weekly cap, and you can buy AI credits to go past it. Heavier work, such as video generation or a long research task, can use more of your allowance than a quick question.
Ultra does not switch you to a different default model. Both plans list the same Gemini 3.1 Pro model and the same 1 million token context window on Google’s pages. Google does not present Ultra as a faster or more accurate version of that model. What Ultra adds is more room to use it, plus Deep Think, a separate reasoning mode for harder problems. If your Pro answers feel weak, Ultra will not fix that by itself; a clearer prompt often will.
The creative and developer gaps are large. Flow credits jump from 1,000 to 10,000 or 25,000, which is the biggest single difference on the page. Developers get higher limits in Jules and Antigravity, and the Google One page lists $10 a month in Google Cloud credits with Pro and more with Ultra. If you never make video or write code, most of Ultra’s extra value is in features you will not open.
Decision criteria
Before you upgrade, answer these questions about your last month on Pro (or on Free, if you are new):
- How often did you run out of usage? Hitting the weekly cap once is an annoyance. Hitting it every week and losing work days is the real case for Ultra.
- Do you need an Ultra-only feature? Deep Think, Project Genie and Gemini Agent are the clearest examples. If none of them appears in your actual work, the extras are mostly storage and YouTube.
- Is the AI paying for itself? At $99.99 a month, Ultra costs about $1,200 a year. For a creator or consultant who bills for the output, that can be a normal tool cost. For personal use, it rarely is.
- Would AI credits be cheaper? Google lets you top up past your limit with AI credits. If you only run short in a few busy weeks a year, compare the credit price at checkout with the extra $80 a month for Ultra.
- Do you already pay for storage or YouTube? Ultra’s 20 TB and YouTube Premium have real value only if you would pay for them anyway.
A quick way to read the price: the 5x tier costs about five times Pro for five times the Pro limits, so the cost per unit of usage stays roughly the same. The 20x tier costs about ten times Pro for twenty times the limits, which works out to roughly half the cost per unit. That only matters if you would actually use that much. These are rough illustrations from the listed prices, not official figures, so check current limits on the official site.
When to choose each option
Choose Google AI Pro if
- You use Gemini daily for writing, email, summaries, trip planning, study or research, and you rarely see a limit message.
- You want Gemini inside Gmail, Docs and Chrome without a large bill.
- You make an occasional AI video or image but do not produce video every week.
- You are learning AI and want room to practice without paying for capacity you will not use.
Hypothetical example: a retired teacher writes a family newsletter, plans travel and asks Gemini Notebook to turn long PDFs into audio summaries. Even on busy weeks this stays well inside Pro, and the 5 TB of storage covers years of photos.
Choose Google AI Ultra 5x if
- You regularly hit Pro’s weekly limit and it costs you working time.
- You need Deep Think for difficult maths, science, analysis or code reviews.
- You produce video in Google Flow often enough that 1,000 credits run out early in the month.
Hypothetical example: a freelance video marketer storyboards client ads in Flow and drafts scripts in Gemini. Pro credits run out in the first week, so the 10,000 credits on Ultra 5x turn a stalled workflow into a normal one, and the client work covers the cost.
Choose Google AI Ultra 20x if
- You run long agent sessions in Antigravity or Jules most days.
- Several large projects run in parallel and even 5x would run short.
- You need 25,000 Flow credits or 30 TB of storage for client archives.
Tradeoffs and caveats
Neither plan is free of limitations, and a few catches are easy to miss.
- Limits can still run out on Ultra. “20x” means twenty times the Pro allowance, not unlimited. The weekly cap and 5 hour resets still apply.
- Features vary by country. Pro and Ultra are each sold in more than 150 countries, but Deep Think, Gemini Agent, Chrome auto browse and YouTube Premium have narrower lists. Check your country before paying for one feature.
- Refunds are limited. You can cancel at any time, but the subscriptions page says there are no refunds for partial billing periods except where the law requires them. Upgrade at the start of a busy period, not halfway through a quiet one.
- Personal accounts only. The Google One page says only personal Google Accounts can buy these plans. Teams on Google Workspace use a Gemini add-on or Gemini Enterprise instead.
- Agents need careful permissions. Chrome auto browse and Gemini Agent can act on websites for you. Give them the smallest access the task needs and keep your own approval for purchases, sending messages and deleting anything. Web pages can contain hidden instructions aimed at AI tools, a risk called prompt injection, so watch what an agent does on unfamiliar sites.
- Privacy rules do not change with the price. On either plan, do not paste ID numbers, card details, passwords or health records into Gemini.
You will find plenty of user reviews online, but limits change often, so a complaint from early 2026 may not describe the plan as of October 2026. Your own month of real use is a more reliable test than someone else’s opinion. One simple method is to keep a short log: each time you hit a limit, write down the date and the task. After four weeks, the log tells you whether Ultra solves a real problem.
Learning to get more from either plan
Some limit problems come from long, vague chats rather than from the plan. Short, specific requests use less of the compute budget than long, vague chats, and a fresh chat for each new task keeps the context focused. These habits stretch Pro much further.
